Looking for a more urban experience during your trip? Look no further than Lombardy! Pocketed by ancient cities of the former Roman empire and deforested by years of settlement, the Italian Peninsula featured much of the civilization of the Carolingian Empire.
Although not part of the empire, travelers to Lombardy should take time to visit Rome during their trip. Home to the Pope and the memory of the Roman Empire, few cities reflect late antiquity better than this legendary city. While there, be sure to see St. Peter’s Basilica!
Expect moderate to warm temperatures, with cool winds from the Alps in the north mixing with warm breezes to moderate the conditions. Rainfall comes in large bursts, so expect some days to be rained out, but otherwise sunny conditions prevail.
