Thermopolia

The hardworking Roman lifestyle was extremely busy especially during expansion periods; convenience for food was huge for common citizens. With crowded cities and small living quarters, there was a need for a convenient way to get food and drinks for one’s family. This came the creation of thermopolia, which was a restaurant, diner or bar where patrons could come pick up hot and ready food or drinks on the go or stop in for a fast meal. Think of the thermopolia as a modern day fast food restaurant or a restaurant drive through. The picture below shows the layout of a thermopolia.
